FELLOWSHIP FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN – Amanda Yeo's story:

*This profile represents a little experiment we're running to allow our fellowship participants to fundraising for their placement directly through the Education Generation platform. We hope this will tie fellows more directly to our work and community, and allow their supporters to feel closer to the overall process. We must be very clear though that this is NOT a student scholarship, and the money raised here will be used by Education Generation and the related field partner (Mosqoy - Peru in this case) to cover the direct costs of recruitment, training and support for the fellow. Good luck fundraising Fellows!

~ The EdGen team

Hello Everyone!

My name is Amanda Yeo and I am very excited to be part of EdGen’s 2012 Fellowship program.  I joined EdGen because I believe that education is necessary to achieve success. I am very grateful to have studied in Canada where we have our families, mentors, financial aid and scholarships to help us with our education. In other countries, these options are not always available. I feel that any student who wants to learn should have an opportunity to do so.  I hope that, as a Fellow, I can make a difference by making students feel like they have that external support. To let them know that there are people who are willing to help with their education so that they can have more options for their future.

On my 9-week journey to Peru, I will be working with Mosqoy, one of Education Generation’s partners. They are a wonderful non–profit organization that works to provide sustainable educational opportunities for Peruvian youths. As I work with them, I will continue to blog about my experience. Through my eyes, you can see how these students live and their journey for education.

I look forward to working with Mosqoy and the students in Peru.  I invite you to be an active participant with me by leaving me your thoughts and comments on my EdGen blog or providing a donation to one of the students who are part of the program. Don’t forget to check out the other blogs of my fellow volunteers.

About Amanda Yeo:

Curious about the world, Amanda has made it her mission to travel the world and experience each culture firsthand. She joined EdGen because she believes that learning and education are stepping stones to achieve our dreams. She is extremely grateful for all the opportunities her family has given her in Canada and she hopes to do the same for others by volunteering.
