Education provides the tools for youth to recognize and harness their own potential, opening doors to healthier communities, better employment opportunities, and greater understanding both locally and globally. Helping one youth attain the skills, knowledge, choices and opportunities gained from education can make a meaningful difference in the life of entire families, and indeed communities. These benefits can be seen for generations, and so access for an entire generation of young leaders is the most sure-fire way we can think of to create a better future for all of us.
EdGen is re-imagining the role of education in developing a generation with the confidence, capacity and determination to help shape their local and global communities. We work together, $20 at a time, to fund scholarships for young leaders to participate in some the world’s most forward-thinking education programs.

After your transaction you will get a confirmation (and thank you!) email, which includes information on the amount and the student(s) supported. You will then be directly connected to this student’s progress:
- find the student anytime in your scholarship support record
- receive update emails anytime a journal entry is posted for this student
- receive an update email when this student is re-posted for future funding
Education Generation relies on partner organizations already working in communities to identify students in need of support.
We seek innovative and progressive partners that think holistically about the education and support provided to students. We’re excited by program focus areas that might include leadership development, creative thinking and problem solving, entrepreneurship, market relevant training, and particularly by partners that seek to influence the broader education system around them.
Less inspiring, but also important, we look for partners already providing scholarship opportunities (not looking to us to develop a new program), a documented record of effective financial management and social impact, and evidence of legal operations in the countries they work in.
We would love to hear about them! As we grow, we will post information in our Partners section on how to become a partner organization.
100% of the money donated towards EdGen scholarships (after PayPal transaction costs) will be forwarded to contribute to the student’s education this year. We use no portion for our own overhead or marketing, and rely on direct community donations and external funders to operate.
Costs generally cover some or all of tuition and/or ancillary costs acting as a barrier to further education (ie. transportation, books, medical costs). The exact costs covered are identified to the best of our ability within each partner profile, or can be found on the partner’s websites.
You can pay by credit card through PayPal’s website. In order to keep our administration costs as low as possible we are only able to accept cheque donations of $500 or more. Please contact us to make arrangements in this case.
It costs approximately 4% of each donation to process the transaction with PayPal. This is the most cost effective and efficient solution available, and is an expense that partner organizations would have to pay directly if they were processing the donation online.
When you successfully complete a transaction, you receive an email receipt confirming your purchase from PayPal. This receipt contains a transaction ID and also includes students who you have donated to. You can log into your Account at any time to view the scholarships to which you contributed.
Our partners strive to select the most dedicated and motivated students, but life can be unpredictable. If unforeseen circumstances force a student to discontinue their education, funds will not be returned to donors. Often fees are paid up front for the year and would be forfeited in this case. If funds do remain, they will be used to support another student for the balance of the year if possible.
In any case where a student does not receive the necessary funding before the deadline, Education Generation will first (i) ask the partner organization if they are able to supplement funding to ensure this student can attend school this term. To date, this is almost always possible as these situations only occur rarely.
If not possible we will (ii) amalgamate funding within that partner’s fundraising students to fund the maximum number of students at that deadline. Should residual funds remain we will (iii) re-allocate residual funds to any other student, based on urgency of their funding status.
Education Generation will only re-allocate funds between students in the circumstances described above, and we will strive to notify donors of any re-allocation of their funding to another student.
Education Generation works directly with experienced partners who are familiar with the local environment and education system in the communities they support. In relying on these qualified partners, we do not independently select or support individual students, nor do we directly deliver sponsorship.
No. 100% of student scholarship donations (after PayPal transaction fees) are delivered to the partner organizations and these funds are earmarked for direct student support. Education Generation is a grassroots organization and supporters have an opportunity to add an amount of their choosing to help ensure we can continue providing these scholarship opportunities. These donations are not mandatory, but very much appreciated! Please contact us directly if you would be interested in joining our “investor circle” of significant operations funders.
Check out our Partner’s section for a list of partners and where they operate.
Donations will not receive tax receipts at this time due to the complexities of working with donors and partner organizations in over 20 countries. If this presents a significant barrier to your continued support, we would love to hear from you as we prioritize this conversation in our development.
Sure! When registering a profile there is an option to register anonymously. We will not share your info with anyone and your name will not appear in your profile.
We are striving to build a community of those supporting education and so encourage people to include as much information as they are comfortable with.
We do not share your information with ANYONE, outside of what is necessary to complete donation transactions with PayPal. Please read our privacy agreement for more info!
Just look for the gift card tab in the top navigation bar and follow the instructions – thanks!
You will receive an email with a special redemption code. All your recipient needs is this code, and they can apply it after they select the student they wish to support, during the check out process. Full instructions should arrive with your card purchase, but please email us if you have any questions.
As long as the person redeeming the card has the unique code, anyone with an Education Generation account can redeem the card. Which reminds us – please protect your code if you are concerned about anyone else sneaking into the system and making your donation for you!
There is technically a 12 month expiry on your gift card, at which time we reserve the right to apply this amount to our operating expenses. If however you have a card that has expired and contact us to have it reinstated, we will always do our best to accommodate that request.
